I once bought a baseball mitt.  It was pretty cheap.  It was all I could afford as a young teen saving up some moneys.  The brilliant idea came to me of removing some of the laces to expand the size of the web:  I figured the ball would fall in there and get caught automatically like a net.  It was the next day I realized the flaw in this design, when a friend threw a baseball wicked hard at me.  The ball ricochetted through the web and hit me in the forehead.  That hurt a lot.
